Visitor Information

Oslo, the capital of Norway, is situated at the head of Oslo Fjord surrounded by forested ridges and is both a municipality and a county. The city limits encompass wilderness areas as well as an array of restaurants almost unparalleled in Scandinavia. Oslo City Hall is located in the city centre only a few hundred metres from the city's main street and overlooks Oslo Fjord filled with moored pleasure craft, shrimp trawlers, cruise ships, charter boats and ferries to all the islands. Norwegians are interested in sports and are proud of their athletes and sports facilities. The legendary Holmenkollen Ski Jump - a trolley ride away from the city centre - is the core of extensive sports facilities adapted for ski jumping competition, cross country competition and biathlon events.

Transport

The main airport, Oslo Airport Gardermoen, is located 45 km north of Oslo. Frequent express train and bus services connect it to the city centre. Sandefjord Airport Torp is located 110 km south-west of the city. All trains arrive at Oslo Central Station (often referred to as Oslo S) in the city centre, while buses arrive at the Oslo Bus Terminal nearby. The city has a network of metro trains, trams, busses and ferries. The NordiCHI venues can be reached by Metro or bus. Metro stations (known as T-banen in Norwevian) can be identified by a (T) symbol within a circle. Metro tickets must be bought before entering the train. Tickets are available from the driver on board buses and trams. A day-card -“dagskort”- is valid for 24 hours on all modes of local transport. Taxis can be found at taxi ranks, flagged down in the street or booked by phone, Oslo Taxi 02323 and Norgestaxi 08000.
